WBO Light Flyweight Champ Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon, 31-0, 6 KOs) feels challenger and former champ Hugo Cazares, 26-4-1, 19 KOs, is not giving him the respect that he earned last year when he took away his world championship with a masterful boxing performance.
The former champ, however, feels Calderon did not beat him as fairly as he thinks he did.
"All he did the before the first fight is talk about how he was going to knock me out,” said Calderon today at the final press conference. “Not only did he not do that, but I took away his title. Now he’s crying about the result of the first fight, saying that he will knock me out this time.
“Well, let him try—because he will never be able to hit what he can't see.”
In their rematch, scheduled for the main event of “Latin Fury 6,” televised on PPV, Calderon will defend the belt he won from Cazares.
Getting Personal
"If he ran away last time, he will fly away this time,” said Cazares. “Just stop and fight, and we’ll see how things change.”
Calderon wasted no time responding:
“The only one flying is you—home without the belt".
The classic confrontation between boxer and puncher, was won by the boxer the first time, but this time Cazares says it will be different.
"In the first fight, I needed the first three or four rounds to figure him out,” said Cazares. “I gave them away by doing very little, but the rest of the fight was mine, as you saw by the judge who scored the fight in my favor by five points (116-111), and that was with only one official knockdown. There were others that they did not count, and he was never penalized for all the holding he did during the fight.
“This time, the pressure will come from the first bell, and I will knock him out before the final bell.”
Talk is cheap
As far as Calderon is concerned, talk is cheap.
"You can talk all you want outside the ring, but you will never be able to back it up inside the ring,” said Calderon.
“You might be strong and tall, but you’re a fool who has no idea how to box.”
