In a clash of former world champions known for their left hooks, Roy “Captain Hook” Jones, Jr. (54-5, 40 KOs) schooled Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy (25-3, 17 KOs) over ten one-sided rounds on Saturday night at the MS Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi. An extremely sharp Jones methodically battered Lacy, becoming more dominant as the bout progressed. Over the last few rounds Jones landed almost at will. Lacy’s corner mercifully halted the fight after round ten of the scheduled twelve. It was the first time anyone had ever stopped the durable Lacy. The bout was delayed approximately 30 minutes when the Jones and Lacy camps had a disagreement about the gloves. They both ended up wearing Everlast gloves.

In a clash for the vacant IBO cruiserweight title, two-time world champion Danny “Green Machine” Green (27-3, 24 KOs) set up a possible bout in Australia against Roy Jones Jr. with a fifth round KO against Julio Cesar “La Furia” Dominguez (20-5-1, 14 KOs). Green floored Dominguez in round five and then finished him moments later. Time was 2:53.

Unbeaten BJ “El Peligrosso” Flores (24-0-1, 15 KOs) scored a fourth round stoppage of Epifanio “Diamante” Mendoza (29-8-1, 25 KOs) after Mendoza suffered a shoulder injury and couldn’t continue. WBO #3/WBA #6/WBC #11/IBF #11 Flores was in command before the injury. Time was 1:19.
—–
Jason “The American Boy” Litzau (25-2, 21 KOs) scored an impressive third round TKO over Verquan Kimbrough (21-2-2, 7 KOs). The bout was all Litzau as he pummeled Kimbrough from the opening bell.
—–
Super lightweight “Sugar” Ray Narh (23-1, 20 KOs) dominated journeyman Marteze “Too Sweet” Logan (26-38-2, 6 KOs), dropping him twice in round five to end it. Time was 1:21.
—–
Heavyweight Lenroy “TNT” Thomas moved to 13-1 with 8 KOs after a six-round shutout over 355lb Gabe “Big G” Brown (18-11-4, 12 KOs). Scores were 60-54 across the board.

Green hopes to emulate Fenech
When Australian boxer Danny Green (26-3, 23 KOs) takes on Argentinean Julio Cesar Dominguez (20-4, 14 KOs) on August 15th in Biloxi, Mississippi, he has the chance to emulate Australian legend Jeff Fenech by winning three world titles in three weight divisions. The fight with Dominguez is for the vacant IBO cruiserweight title and provides a chance to add to previous world honors as WBA light heavyweight and WBC super middleweight champion. The 36-year-old from Perth, Western Australia is known as the “Green Machine” and is focused on matching Fenech’s achievement. He stated from Biloxi, “To challenge for my third world title at three weights is a major motivating factor for me on Saturday as few Australian fighters have ever achieved this goal. In recent years Jeff Fenech achieved this and if I can beat this tough opponent Dominguez then I will be able to join this elite group. When I set out in boxing all them years ago who would have thought this skinny kid from Australia could become a three weight world champion.” |More|

Mississippi crossroads for Jones Boxing is replete with crossroads fights. Often staged as a token measure, a bout is gifted to an aging champion whose better days appear confined to the past. But every so often, a crossroads battle pits 2 fighters still poised at the precipice, the stakes instantly magnified, and the implications mushroom for both. |More |
Houston on Jones-Lacy
When Roy Jones Jr. outclassed James Toney in 1994 I doubt if anyone watching could possibly have imagined that he would still be fighting 15 years later at the age of 40 — but he is. Jones is one of those older fighters who can’t stay away from the game. Ask him why he is still fighting and he might tell you that he sees his ability as a gift from the Almighty, adding: “Who am I to refuse a gift from God?” |More |
Green feels the heat in Biloxi
Whilst it was an overcast 60° F/16° C in his hometown of Perth, Western Australia today, former WBA light-heavyweight champion Danny Green faced a 91° F/33° C environment (104° F/40° C factoring in humidity) in his training camp in Biloxi, Mississippi in preparation for his IBO cruiserweight title clash against Argentinean Julio Cesar Dominguez on Saturday. However, this did not deter the 36-year-old Green (26-3, 23 KOs) from turning in an impressive sparring session with former NABA super middleweight champion Anthony Greenidge over eight rounds. Green stated from his US base, “It was over forty degrees over here today in Biloxi and I am sure I lost 4kg in the session. At one point I went out into the car park and shadow boxed in my underpants to cool down.” |More |

Green arrives in Biloxi Australian two time world champion Danny “The Green Machine” Green (26-3, 23 KOs) has touched down in the US in Biloxi, Mississippi in advance of his IBO cruiserweight title fight with Argentinean Julio Cesar Dominguez (20-4-1, 14 KOs) at the Gulf Coast Arena on August 15th. Whilst it is winter in his home country of Australia, the temperatures in Biloxi and the Deep South in recent days have provided an acclimatization challenge and Team Green have switched training sessions to the early evening to combat the change in climate compared to Australia. Green’s trainer Angelo Hyder stated, “We always knew the climate change would be a challenge and that is why we have come over for two weeks to get used to the conditions. Judging by the last session we have just completed, Danny is on fire and I don’t anticipate any issues and I know Danny will go out and prove this is one of Australia’s best fighters in history.” If the 36-year-old Green secured the IBO cruiserweight title on the 15th of August, he will emulate Jeff Fenech who secured three world titles at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight in his exciting career and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest champions. In addition to this honor, Green must win and look impressive to tempt the seven time world champion Roy Jones Jr to Australia in a planned mega-fight in November.
