In his first bout in 15 months, IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (26-1, 22 KOs) won a hard fought twelve round majority decision over William Gonzalez (21-3, 19 KOs) to retain his title. Gonzalez tried to trade with Agbeko, but the champion never took a step back as he busted up Gonzalez' face. Gonzalez gamely battled all the way to the end, but it was Agbeko prevailing by scores of 116-112, 116-112, 114-114.
Unbeaten jr welterweight Devon Alexander (17-0, 10 KOs) scored a third round TKO over Christopher Fernandez (15-6-1, 9 KOs). Alexander dropped Fernandez twice in round two and got the stoppage at 3:00 of round three. Unbeaten welterweight Henry Crawford (20-0-1, 9 KOs) punished Maximino Cuevas (10-9-1, 5 KOs) until Cuevas' corner threw in the towel at 1:04 of round two.

Going once, going twice . . . !
According to the New York Post, the world middleweight championship belt Rocky Graziano lifted from Tony Zale on July 17, 1947, will be auctioned off on Nov 15 at a Louisville, KY sports memorabilia show.  It is expected to sell for as much as $75,000.  Just 11 months after winning the belt, Graziano would return it to Tony Zale in the rubber match of their epic trilogy.  Ironically, that June 10, 1948, bout at Ruppert Stadium was the last world championship fight in Newark, NJ—that is until Dec 11, 2008, when Philadelphia, PA native Steve “USS” Cunningham defends his IBF Cruiserweight Championship against Jersey City’s “Polish Warrior” Tomasz Adamek at the Prudential Center.  VERSUS will broadcast the Cunningham-Adamek bout and a co-feature contest beginning at 8:00 pm ET . . .  Click here for more
