Mijares-Munoz update

WBC super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares (34-3-2, 14 KOs) and WBA superfly champ Alexander "El Explosivio" Munoz (32-2, 27 KOs) pose at today's press conference in advance of the first super flyweight unification title bout in more than 10 years, headlining Saturday's "Noche de Campeones" pay-per-view event live from the Auditorio Centenario in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. "I'm ready and I'm sure I'm going to beat my opponent," Mijares remarked. "I'm not going to say if it'll end early or go the distance, but I'm prepared for anything because it's a big responsibility to be fighting at home. We're not friends but we're not enemies, either. We're just rivals for this fight." Munoz commented, "I'm ready for this fight. I'm going to knock out Mijares and take both belts back to Venezuela."

Salado not worried about Miranda
WBC No. 6 flyweight Omar Salado (19-0-2, 11 KO) says he might not know much about his opponent,  No. 4-ranked Julio Cesar Miranda (25-3-1, 18 KO), but he’s not too worried. “I don’t really know much about him,” says Salado. “All I know is that he has been talking a lot, how he is going to give me a beating.  But what I have seen of him, I don’t see anything out of the ordinary that I should worry about." : Click here for more

Munoz ready for Mijares
Current WBA Super Flyweight champ Alexander Munoz steps up to a tough challenge when he faces WBC titleholder Cristian Mijares this upcoming Saturday night in a rare unification bout. Munoz, hardly known in the U.S., is a veteran of 43 fights, with 32 wins and only two losses—with 27 ending within the distance. Hugely popular in Japan, Munoz will find himself deep in Mijares’ home country of Mexico to take part in this highly-anticipated championship bout. Just a few days before his showdown, Munoz spoke with Fightnews about his plans for Mijares, his popularity in Japan and why he feels he should only have one loss on his ledger : Click here for more

A war between promoters!
Nacho Huizar, the lead promoter for KO Entertainment, took a quick break from his busy schedule promoting "Noche De Campeones" in Durango, MX, to speak with Fightnews regarding the pay-per-view clash coming up this Saturday night (May 17th). And he wasn't talking about the WBC/WBA unification fight between super flyweight champions Cristian Mijares and Alexander Muñoz, but a battle between his company and Top Rank, which is also presenting a pay-per-view event from Mexico on the same night featuring Jorge Arce vs Devid Lookmahanak. "We had the date first," stated Huizar. "They've tried to disrupt my promotion by offering some of the fighters like Muñoz more money. This is business. It's a war between promoters. But we aren't worried. We've gotten plenty of support from Fox Sports Net, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Classic among others to promote the fight card and I don't think Top Rank and Fernando Beltran have the same support," Huizar continued. "I guarantee my event will do ten times more numbers than theirs. There is interest all over the world for our fight and this will prove that Mijares is bigger than Arce."

Mijares speaks out!
Jorge Arce had an undefeated streak of over 25 fights until he got in the ring with Cristian Mijares. That fateful night, April 14, 2007, in San Antonio, Tex., Mijares had his number, repeatedly counterpunching Arce with crushing combinations, and appearing on the verge of stopping the champion. Now, Saturday night, Mijares will defend the belt he won from Arce against another champ--Alexander Munoz--in a PPV unification bout. Less than a week away from the showdown, Fightnews.com caught up with Mijares: Click here for more
