"Fights at the Fitz"
PRIZE FIGHT BACK AT THE FITZ
SATURDAY, July 18th
Promoter Brian Young of Prize Fight Promotions is returning to the Fitz
Casino & Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi on Saturday, July 18th with a five
bout fight card. Historically, this boxing series "Fights at the Fitz" has
been immensely popular with local fans, and every event is a sell out.
In the eight-round lightweight main event, fan favorite Tyrese "Head Honcho"
Hendrix (16-0, 6 KOs) of Atlanta, GA goes up against his toughest opponent
to date in Robbie "Peashooter" Cannon (12-3, 6 KOs) of St. Louis, MO. In his
last fight at the Fitz, the fast-handed Hendrix showed his elite boxing
skills by winning a unanimous decision over Phillip Payne, a veteran of 48
fights. Hendrix will be in line for a regional title if he is successful
this Saturday.
In an exciting six-round female welterweight bout Kita Watkins (3-4, 1 KO)
of Little Rock, AR will battle once again against Nicole Woods (8-4, 1 KO)
of Atlanta, GA. In September 2007, Woods - who was making her debut -
won a four-round decision over Watkins - who was a veteran of 5 bouts at
the time - in a toe-to-toe war. Both ladies have gained a lot of
experience since their first encounter and the rematch promises to be as
explosive confrontation.
In addition, a four-round junior welterweight bout between Xavier Burgos
(1-0) of Miami, FL and Jamar Saunders (2-3, 1 KO) of Atlanta, GA has the
making of a fan friendly bout. Also in action, hard-hitting heavyweight
Randy Johnson (2-1, 2 KOs) of Little Rock, Arkansas battles Larry Slaton
(0-1-1) of Atlanta, GA in a four round heavyweight contest. Slaton was the
a long-time sparring partner for former undisputed cruiserweight champion of
the world O'Neil Bell so he is prepared heavy-handed Johnson.
