JUAN BUENDIA FACES ALPHONSO GOMEZ ON FRIDAY NIGHT IN LAS VEGAS
WELTERWEIGHT SHOWDOWN OPENS AZTECA AMERICA BROADCAST

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 29, 2009) Welterweight Juan Manuel Buendia returns to action this Friday night, May 1st, as he faces off against former world title challenger and star of The Contender, Season One, Alphonso Gomez at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The ten round co-main event will kick off the Azteca America broadcast starting at 10pm EST, 9pm CST and 7pm PST.

The 28 year old Buendia, born in Durango, Mexico, now fighting out of Detroit, Michigan enters the bout with a record of 14-2-1 (8KO’s) while the Southern California native Gomez, also 28 year old, sports a record of 18-4-2 (8KO’s).

Said Chet Koerner, President of TKO BOXING Promotions, “This is a huge boxing weekend in Las Vegas and Juan plans to start it with a bang against Gomez. We truly feel that Juan’s an overlooked fighter in the welterweight landscape and hopefully that will change after Friday night.”

“Juan won his first thirteen fights and they were almost all against other young prospects, many of whom were undefeated. He’s in great shape and truly feels that Friday night is his chance to shine with the whole boxing world watching.”

Buendia is guided by award winning manager Cameron Dunkin who also counts world champions Kelly Pavlik, Nonito Donaire and Steven Luevano amongst his vast stable.

Added Dunkin, “Juan’s a real tough fighter, he’s been in some terrific battles, almost of which he’s won. Gomez is a formidable guy but I think that Juan’s aggressive inside fighting and edge in power will lead him to victory. For true fans of boxing, this should be a terrific fight.”

Headlining the Azteca America broadcast will be WBC’s #1 ranked Urbano Antillon facing off against Tyrone Harris.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is located at 4455 Paradise Road in Las Vegas. This will be the first boxing event inside of the new 3,500-seat new Joint venue.

Tickets for Friday’s event are $75, $50, $35 and $20 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com or at the Hard Rock Box Office. Doors open 5 pm, first bout 5:30 pm.
