Hector Camacho, Jr. isn’t promising a slugfest victory over Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas, Friday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso – he’s promising a swatfest.

Showing all the bravado of his dad, legend Hector, Sr., Camacho approached the podium on Wednesday with a fly swatter, promising to squash Campas like a bug. Slapping the swatter inches from his opponent, Campas smiled and laughed at the obvious attempt to rattle him.

Joe Diaz, trainer for Campas, however, took offense.

“There is no way a Puerto Rican will defeat a Mexican,” he told Camacho. ”My guy will knock you out in the third round – believe that.

Camacho popped up and retorted, “Joe, you are senile.”

Campas, showed a calm presence, saying “My fists will do the talking.

“Someone will go up in the boxing world . . . and someone will go down.”

Showboating for the press, Camacho removed his shirt to reveal his six pack. Campas remained calm, almost amused by his younger foe’s display.

Having fought to an eight-round last draw with Camacho Sr. last May, Jr. stated that he wants revenge.

“I will retire your ass,” Camacho waved his finger at the former champ.

“Someone is leaving on a stretcher and it won’t be me. I mean, look how big his head is! I can’t miss.”

Antonio Escalante was up next. On Friday, the El Pasoan on a verge of a title fight, will take on Carlos Fulgencio of the Dominican Republic in the ten-round co-main at 126 pounds.

Showing praise for his foe, Escalante said, “He is wily. He’s a tall fighter with a good left hook.”

Escalante looks to showcase his talent in hopes of a title fight with WBA Champ Celestino Caballero.

Also on the card is David “Gatti of the Rockies” Medina vs. Miguel Hernandez, who is coming off four straight losses, in the opening PPV bout. Hernandez vows a war with Medina.

“He’s a Mexican and I’m Puerto Rican,” said Hernandez. “I won’t back down.”

Medina countered, “I’m coming straight at you to take you out.”
